b4a096045f57429e89d88bc51fd11e5a_full_sizeZoe over at Playing By The Book has got me all fired up me with her amazing list of Bookish New Year’s Resolutions. Like all of Zoe’s ideas her list is really inspiring. I highly recommend spending some time digging around her idea-filled blog.

I try not to start any New Year telling myself off for things I could be doing better – that feels like a pretty negative starting point to me. Instead I think about what I might enjoy doing and really get a kick out of: something that will have a positive impact on me and maybe on the wider community.

In 2016 I want to…

  • Achieve more for my Patron of Reading school, specifically to help them create a brand new library with a fiction section.
  • Blow my agent’s sock off (yes, singular) with my best picture book text yet. And repeat.
  • Be exciting and entertaining at events in spite of surgical shenanigans.
  • Be happy enough with my own achievements not to envy those of others, but not quite satisfied enough to stop wanting more.
  • Enjoy my last remaining months with my daughter at home before she starts school in September.
  • Remember to take time to appreciate how lucky and happy I am.
  • Read.
  • Doodle.
  • Daydream.

There are more, but they’re essentially all offshoots of the others. Basically I want to keep on making books that people enjoy, and not be tempted to chuck it all in and get a job at Sainsbury’s. Making books is a lovely thing to do and it’s all I ever want to do – apart from snog Johnny Depp. Let’s add that to the list, shall we?

  • Snog Johnny Depp.
  • johnnydepp
You never know. Positive visualisation, and all that. I hope 2016 brings only good things to you and yours. Happy New Year!
